MWUN 2025 ELECTION: Dockworkers Elect Comrade Bolaji Agboola As President

The Dockworkers Branch of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Monday, June 23, 2025, elected Comrade Bolaji Agboola as its new president.

Agboola, a former District 2 Chairman at Tin Can Island Port, takes over from Comrade Tajudeen Ohize, who is now the current Vice President General of MWUN.

The newly elected branch executives emerged unopposed at the 6th Quadrennial Branch Delegates Conference held in Warri, Delta State.

Here are the names and positions of the newly elected executives of the Dockworkers Branch, MWUN, who are expected to run the affairs of the union for the next four years: Comrade Bolaji Agboola – President; Comrade Bestman Biopko – Vice President; Comrade Wole Adetumi – Treasurer; Comrade Sharafadeen Oguntoyinbo – Trustee; Comrade Augustine Okpas – Trustee; Comrade Isa Ahmed – Auditor;

Meanwhile, the President General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu, and Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, the immediate past President General of the union, were in attendance.

Outgoing President, Dockworkers Branch MWUN, Comrade Tajudeen Ohize expressed satisfaction over the large turn out of members from the branch .

Ohize said “Am the happiest person today seeing all the Dockworkers here present. Am handing over to somebody who has followed my footsteps and am very happy Bolaji Agboola is coming from the same district with him . The newly elected person is not a tribal person “, urging him to remain humble, steadfast and dedicated as he begins a new chapter. Ohize also appreciated stakeholders and Secretariat staff of the union for their immensely contribution to the union.

While declaring the conference opened , President General of MWUN Comrade Francis Bunu reiterated that a new government is emerging today adding that the election was seamless without hitches.

Bunu called on the new executives to remember to prioritize the interest of the union. He appealed to the executives to allow workers have their ways and MWUN will not be an antagonist to management. According to him , without dockworkers no revenue appealing to the government and players of the industry to take the dockers seriously. Bunu stated that the trade Union has done immensely to for the union.

He maintained that Warri was selected for the elections because of her maritime potentials .

Comrade Adeyanju during his remarks appreciated the branch and the union , expressing satisfaction for the current leadership of the MWUN.

Also, a cross-section of national, branch, and district executives were present at the election, alongside observers from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) ; Nigerian Ports Authority ( NPA); and terminal operators.
