L: DR. DAYO MOBEREOLA, DIRECTOR GENERAL/CEO, NIMASA & COMRADE FRANCIS BUNU ABI, PRESIDENT GENERAL, MARITIME WORKERS UNION OF NIGERIA

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, recently thanked the Director-General of Nigerian Maritime Administration & Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola over the successful unionization of Melsmore Ltd; and the recently signed into a workbook the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) of Melsmore Ltd and the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria.

The recently signed CBA brings into action the modus operandi of the Union Workers’ in Melsmore Ltd, a Shipping company resident in Victoria Island, and operating in the maritime space of the country.

Comrade Bunu describes Dr. Mobereola as one DG ever produced by NIMASA, who is very thorough, proactive, disciplined, and committed to duty always; a personality whose vast knowledge in Maritime administration cannot be overemphasized, made the whole process a reality for both organizations.

It would be recalled that Dr. Mobereola was on both sides of the divide, MWUN and Melsmore Ltd Management towards making sure that both parties struck a balanced deal over the Maritime Workers’ in their employ. In fact, on the long run, the Management of Melsmore saw reasons why the Union workers in their fold should be given sense of belonging in the maritime space, where the Union also regulates amongst other top agencies in the country, especially NIMASA.

In view of this milestone agreement achieved, the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria is saluting Dr. Mobereola over his swift courage, and that of his Executive Director on Labour and Carbotage Services for a Job well done; by giving both parties a fair treatment of justice in the whole matter that has ended well.

The Veteran Sailor and foremost Maritime Labour, leader in Nigeria, Comrade Bunu, says the relationship between NIMASA, MWUN, and Melsmore Ltd in the maritime sector would continue to wax stronger having attained this height of mutual understanding in the shortest period of time.

Comrade Bunu also used the opportunity to thank the management of Melsmore Ltd for its listening ears as it’s when companies refuse to listen to voice of reasoning on giving its workers the necessary welfare package as recommended by Labour Laws, is the time Union frowns at such companies for ignoring the rights and plights of its workers.

And having gone past all the rough stages of discussions, and having arrived at a truce, the Union is impressed with the intervention of Dr. Mobereola, who played the roles of a “Big Brother” in seeing to the amicable end of the quagmire between Melsmore Ltd, and the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria; we, therefore, say that Dr. Mobereola is indeed the “Doctor” of the Maritime Industry.

E-Signed,

John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN
